I catch up on Everwood and Liam Neeson hosts SNL (it's a bad episode)

DVD boxed sets lined store shelves. American Girl Dolls were all the rage. US troops took control of the Iraqi city of Fallujah in a bloody battle only for the city of Mosul to fall to insurgents. Let's see what was on TV.

Everwood 3x01-3x03
Recorded, originally on the WB
It's a new season and a whole new ballgame, and I'm intrigued. Everyone is being secret and conflicted and uneasy and angsty. And here comes the big new guest star Scott Wolf with all his sunny California energy to make things even more uncomfortable and awkward. Sounds like a winning recipe.
Many teen dramas struggle when they get their OTP together. They struggle to write stories about a happy couple, and this leads to a lot of very stupid stories with lots of miscommunication and yelling. Thankfully Everwood does not fall into this trap. They get in fights and do silly things like teenagers do, but then they communicate and make up like teenagers who are turning into adults. It's very satisfying, and it helps that we have a new character here to shake things up in Sarah Drew's Hanna. I'm really glad that Amy has a friend again, I was really starting to miss Nora Zehetner's Laynie by the end of last season.
So, I like the new direction of the season. I am NOT a fan of the new title sequence. It looks like they overdosed on iMovie. It gave me vertigo. But I'm thrilled to see that Merrilyn Gann's Rose is now a series regular. Moms to the front!

11:30 Saturday Night Live! on NBC
Host Liam Neeson with musical guest Modest Mouse
Tonight's episode (hosted by Liam Neeson with musical guest Modest Mouse) is a rough one. The most interesting part comes in the monologue. Liam Neeson says he won't be playing any drunks: no stereotypes here! Then Finesse Mitchell comes out and says he won't be playing any pimps or ballplayers...and that's why you won't be seeing him this episode. They run through the rest of the cast (even the white guys) and all the stereotypes they're slotted into. But the Mitchell joke lingers. Mitchell has been outright missing from multiple episodes this season. There are other episodes where you might see him once, in the background of the sketch. The one episode where he was prominently featured was hosted by Queen Latifah. He starred in a lot of sketches about pimps and ballplayers. Admitting you have a problem doesn't make it better! A lesson many comedians and people who think they're funny have yet to learn!
What Else Was On
It's November Sweeps, so we're airing real hit movies: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone was on The Wonderful World of Disney and Men in Black was the NBC Saturday Night Movie.
