What was on TV? Tues, Jan 4, 2005
Just Veronica Mars today. But it's a good episode!

20 years ago, it was still called "The Facebook." Let's see what was on TV.

9:00 Veronica Mars on UPN
1x11 "Silence of the Lamb"
Available on Hulu
This episode introduces Max Greenfield as rookie cop Leo D'Amato, plus the case of the week features Aaron Paul as a total Jessie Pinkman type (the "I want a lawyer" moment is classic Jesse). Plus this is the first-ever acting credit for Switched at Birth's Katie LeClerc! But my favorite part of the episode was still the Mac storyline, in which Veronica discovers she was...switched at birth. It marks a major milestone in Veronica's private eye career, in which he has to deliver life-changing news to a friend. And the Mac material is basic--she doesn't fit in!--but it works, in large part thanks to the visual storytelling. That final scene with her birth mother in the car is just gorgeous. The shot of her through the window from the low angle, goodness gracious me!
This episode was written by Jed Seidel and Dayna Lynne North. Seidel has written for Gilmore Girls, Greek, and Terriers. North had previously worked on Black dramas Any Day Now and Soul Food before spending two years of Veronica Mars. She later worked on Switched at Birth and Insecure, and developed The Best Man: The Final Chapters.
This episode was directed by John T. Kretchmer. Before transitioning into TV, he did assistant directing work on the Naked Gun movies and Flatliners.
What Else Was On
- Poor Ashlee Simpson had a very bad showing at the Orange Bowl halftime show. To paraphrase a YouTube commenter: whenever you have a bad day you can just watch this video and you'll probably feel better.
- NBC premiered yet another Friends knock-off, Committed. This one did about as well as all the others.
TiVo Status
Just the three-hour Masterpiece Theater miniseries The Lost Prince. One day I'll watch it.
